What we did in 2016

New Years Eve 2016-Eblast.jpg

In 2016 The Bike Campaign organized 27 events in Yolo County, including a Kidical Mass Family Bike Ride, 8 Free Bike Clinics at schools and residential complexes, a 5-week elementary school Bike Club, valet bike parking for a Brewfest & May is Bike Month events.

Volunteers at The Bike Garage repaired and recycled over 200 bikes. 50 Bikes were given free to individuals and families in need of reliable transportation along with training, helmets/locks & lights

We put on the 1st Annual UCD Leadership Bike Tour, 1st Annual Davis Leadership Bike Tour to welcome Davis Joint Unified’s new Superintendent Dr. John Bowes, and the 1st Annual Woodland Leadership Bike Tour to celebrate the installation of the first secure bike racks at the Yolo County Fairgrounds.

We rode in the Davis Picnic Day Parade, displayed beautiful bikes at several businesses in Woodland (thank you Mojo’s, Blue Note Brewing, Sweet Potato Pie, Corner Drug), and taught 25 children and adults how to ride a bike.

We provided training, support and bike helmets for a group of 50 refugees in Sacramento, and started our Family-Friendly Bike/accessory Lending Library.  Together with the City of Woodland’s Parks & Rec. department we participated in the Commit2Fit program and put on the BIGGEST 4th of July bike parade in Northern California – over 500 bikes rolled down Main Street, Woodland.

We are thankful to:  Yolo Solano Air Quality Management District. Yolo County Health & Human Services, Woodland Sunrise Rotary, Yolo County Library, Mayors Robb Davis and Tom Stallard, Davis and Woodland City Council Members. Cool Davis, Davis Soroptimist Club, Congregation Bet Haverim, Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis, UCDavis Health & Wellness, and the UCD Institute for Transportation Studies who have all provided funding or support to our efforts in Yolo County.  We are exceptionally thankful to all the wonderful people who donated bikes.
What’s in store for 2017?  Start the new year right! Donate all unused serviceable bikes to The Bike Campaign. Visit our Bike Garage and share this information with your friends.  We will reopen on  Saturdays 9am-noon & Wednesdays 2-5pm, beginning January 18th
Be a part of The Bike Campaign’s goal to reduce car traffic while we increase fun, friendship and good health. The Bike Campaign is evolving into a transportation ‘HUB” where people can find the encouragement and support they need to reduce car trips.  Watch out for our new Davis & Woodland bike maps.
Let’s Ride!
